 CALM HORIZON

EXPLORE YOUR PATH TO WELLBEING

Calm Horizon was founded by Brian O’Sullivan in 2022. Brian brings a wealth of experience from over 25 years in the mental health sector. Qualifying as a social worker in 1997, he spent several years working within the adult and acute sector. Over the last 6 years, Brian has worked within CAMHS, including the CRISIS Team, Think Family Outreach Team and Mental Health in Schools Team.

Calm Horizon provides holistic therapeutic interventions to children and young people who may be experiencing challenges such as anxiety, low mood, school avoidance, and emotional dysregulation, as well as a wide range of other difficulties that affect their wellbeing, learning, and relationships.

Finding the right support should feel as straightforward and comfortable as possible. Calm Horizon offers in-person appointments at Cambridge Therapy Rooms in Cambridge City Centre and The Cloisters in Leamington Spa, as well as online sessions from the comfort of your own home.

With appointments available during the week and at weekends, we aim to offer flexibility around school, work and family life. Together, we can consider whether meeting in person or online would feel most comfortable and helpful for your child, young person or family.

About Me

Brian O’Sullivan qualified as a Social Worker from Lancaster University in 1997 and has developed a broad career across the mental health sector, including roles within the NHS, social care, and the voluntary sector.

Over the past six years, he has specialised as a Children’s Low Intensity CBT Practitioner within CAMHS, working across services including the Children’s Crisis Team, Family Outreach, and Mental Health in Schools. This experience has involved supporting children, young people, their families, carers, and wider networks through a wide range of mental health challenges, often during periods of heightened need.

This CAMHS background informs my approach, combining evidence-based practice with a calm, practical, and compassionate way of working that supports both immediate difficulties and longer-term resilience.

Alongside my clinical work, I am a qualified LIST practitioner and supervisor, and I hold British Sign Language (BSL) Stage 1, supporting me in offering inclusive and accessible care.

A passionate advocate for both physical and mental well-being, Brian actively engages in sports and yoga, which are integral to his personal health. He is continuously developing his yoga practice, which has had a transformative effect on his overall well-being. Additionally, Brian has completed numerous triathlons and ultra marathons, further reinforcing his commitment to resilience, both physically and mentally.

With extensive experience in mental health disorders, complex needs, and therapeutic interventions, Brian is committed to supporting children, young people, and their families through their mental health challenges. His goal is to facilitate lasting improvements in their well-being, drawing on his broad knowledge and deep understanding of the field.

Therapy Session Discussion

After a recommendation, our 8 year son, who at the time was refusing to attend school and was overwhelmed with anxiety, began 6 weeks of graded exposure and worry management strategies with Brian. Brian was patient, knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions from us or our son. By the end of the 6 weeks, the most noticeable difference was the absence of anxiety and panic before school drop offs- something that had become a daily occurrence before working with Brian. The support Brian provided to our son has been invaluable, but myself and my partner are incredibly grateful for the skills learnt in the parent workshops. They gave us the skills for how to confidently deal with situations at home, which has had such a positive difference on our family as a whole.
